These singers are from my area and their language pronunciation is perfect; it is just like mine. This is a love song. In general I don’t use love songs because they are not very useful, but this song shows how we should pay respect to each other, how we should collaborate, and so on. It is a good example and that is why I have chosen this song and dance. They sing, first a male and then a female, alternating, just like a conversation, to make us understand how their relationship is. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ ཤེལ་~དཀར་ གངས་~རི་ དཀར་~པོ~། kyed~ni~ xel~gar gǎŋ~ri gar~bo~. You are like the crystal white snow mountain. kyed ni: means you are. At the beginning the male sings. xel gar: just like a white crystal gǎŋri garbo: snow mountain. This means you are very pure, not false, you do not say, “Oh, I love you” just for a few days. So he says, “You are pure, just like a snow mountain”. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ འདབ་~ལྡན་ གངས་~ལྷ་ མེ་~ཏོག~ kyed~ni~ dàb~dán gǎŋ~lha me~dog~ She replies, “You are the divine snow flower with many petals”. kyed ni: you are dàb dán: with petals gǎŋla metog is a lovely snow flower that grows in very high places. It used for medicines and has many petals. The female says, “You are just like the 'gǎŋla metog" in reply to the male's “You are just like a snow mountain”. This flower grows on the snow mountain. Usually flowers grow on the lower slopes, not in the snow, so it means there is this kind of relationship. ངེད་~གཉིས་ བར་~གྱི་ བརྩེ་~སེམས་~ ཡ་~ ལ་~ རེ་པ་ ཧོ། ŋed~ñis bǎr~gyĭ ze~sem~ ya~ la~ re-ba ho The loving affection between us ŋedñis bǎrgyĭ ze sem: these words are repeated many times ŋed: means we, you and me, plural ñis: two, we two bǎr: between we two ze sem: a relationship of love ze: zeva, kindness sem: that is related to the mind. How is the love relationship between us two? རིན་~ཆེན་ གསེར་~ལས་ ལྷག་~ རེད~། rin~qen sèr~las lhag~ red~། It is superior to precious gold. rinqen: means Rinpoche, precious sèr: is gold which is considered to be very precious. But she says, las lhag: our relationship is much more precious than gold. This is repeated again. yala re-ba ho: this doesn't have much meaning, just a few nice words for harmonizing. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ ཚང་~ཚིང་ ནགས་~ཀྱི་ འཇོལ་~མོ~། kyed~ni~ caŋ~ciŋ nag~gyi jòl~mo~. You are the 'jolmo' bird in a very nice forest. Then she says again: you are caŋciŋ: like a very thick, very nice forest. In general we call a forest ནགས་ཚེལ་ 'nagzál', but 'caŋciŋ', which is used in poetry, means a pure, clean, very thick and beautiful forest. It is not a common word. nag: means forest jòlmo: is a small bird, a nightingale, which sings very beautifully. In Tibet we have two types of 'jòlmo' that sing very well. When one sings we know that it will rain; when the other sings there will be good weather. She says, “You are just like a 'jòlmo' in beautiful forest”. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ འདབ་~ལྡན་ བྱེ་~འུ་ དྲུག་~ འགྱུར~། kyed~ni~ dàb~dán jyě~ǔ drǔg~ gyùr~ You are the feathered little 'druggyur' bird. He replies: you are just like the 'dàbdán jyěǔ', a small, colorful, very nice looking bird. drǔggyùr: the name of this bird is six melodies. Why do we call it 'drǔggyùr'? Because when this bird sings, if we listen well there are six melodies combined together. I don’t know the name of this bird in a Western language. In Tibet it is famous, it sings very melodiously and is very beautiful. ངེད་~གཉིས བར་~གྱི་ བརྩེ་~སེམས་~ ཡ་~ ལ་~ རེ་པ་ ཧོ ། ŋed~ñís bǎr~gyĭ ze~sem ya~ la~ re-ba ho The loving affection between us, how is our relationship of love? These words are repeated here. དཀར་~པོ་ དུང་~ལས་ དཀར་~ རེད~། gar~bo dǔŋ~las gar~ red~. It is whiter than a white conch. garbo: white, meaning there are no defects dǔŋ las gar: not only white, but whiter than a conch shell. The example is a conch shell which has been in contact with water for centuries and centuries and become very white. In Tibet, in the teaching and in poetry if we want to say that something is very white we use the example of the conch shell. Just like a conch shell, our relationship, our feelings are very pure. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ ལྷག་~བསམ་ དུང་~ལས་ དཀར་~གི~ kyed~ni~ lhag~sam dǔŋ~las gar~gĭ~. Your good intention is purer than a conch. lhag sam: your good intention, not only intention, because 'lhag' means more. Your good intention is clearer, purer, whiter than a conch shell. ཁྱེད་~ནི་~ གཤིས་~རྒྱུད་ དར་~ལས་ འཇམ་~གི~ kyed~ni~ xìs~gyúd dǎr~las jàm~gĭ~. Your character is softer than silk. Then it repeats: xìs gyúd: your character dǎr: silk jàm: softer than silk. You have a very gentle character. They say very pleasant words to each other: you have good intention, clearer and purer than a white conch shell, and the other replies: your character is very pleasing, as soft as silk. ངེད་~གཉིས་ བར་~གྱི་ བརྩེ་~སེམས་~ ཡ་~ ལ་~ རེ་པ་ ཧོ ། ŋed~ñís bǎr~gyĭ ze~sem~ ya~ la~ re-ba ho. The loving affection between us How is the relationship between us? ཡ་~ཆུང་ སེམས་~ལས་ མི་~འགྱུར~། ya~quŋ sem~las mi~gyùr~. The minds of both of us will never change. yaquŋ: means boy or girl, for both we can say 'yaquŋ', but ya: means one of the two. There is a couple that has a relationship. I am one of the two and the other is one of the two, this is called 'ya'. quŋ: small. A boy or girl who is in a relationship but does not give too much importance to him or herself. sem: our feeling, mind migyùr: means never change or modify. Our relationship will never change. We will always remain that way as a couple. སྔོན་~མའི་~ ལས་~དབང་ བཙན་~པོ་ ཞིག་~གིས~། ŋòn~mai~ las~wáŋ zan~bo xĭg~gĭs~, The strong power of a past karma ŋònma: means before, possibly before our birth or in our past life, not just a few days or a few years ago las: karma wáŋ: potentiality, the potentiality of our past karma zanbo: means strong, not the potentiality of a small karma, but a strong potentiality ངེད་~གཉིས་~ མཉམ་~དུ་ ཡ་~ལ་ འཛོམས་~སོང་~། ŋed~ñís~ ñám~dǔ ya~la zòm~soŋ~. Has brought the two of us together. ŋed ñís: we two ñámdǔ zòm: meet together. It is not only that I see you, I like you and we become friends, but I know there is a very precise connection that brings us together. ངེད་~གཉིས་ བརྩེ་~གདུང་ མི་~ འགྱུར་~ ཡ་~ ལ་~ རེ་པ་ ཧོ ། ŋed~ñís ze~duŋ mi~ gyùr~ ya~ la~ re-ba ho Our love is unchangeable ŋed ñís: we two zeduŋ: our kindness and love migyùr: does not change. It does not change because it is related to our karma. བདེ་~སྐྱིད་ འཚོ་~བར་ རོལ་~ འགྲོ~ dé~gyid cò~var rol~ drò~. And we enjoy our happy life. dé: means happiness gyid: also means happiness, We enjoy our happiness còvar: means life, we are together, enjoying a very nice life dégyid còvar rol: we are enjoying. This is what we should do. Then we repeat everything just as before.
