The Causes and Effects of Karma

ལས་~  སྨོན་~ལམ་~ ~བཟང་~པོས་~ ~བོད་~དུ་~ ~སྐྱེས~།

las~   mòn~lam~  ~sáŋ~bos~ ~

Through good karma and aspirations

                            bǒd~du~  ~gyes~,

                            I was born in Tibet,

    དྲིན་~  ཕ་~མས་~ ~དཔྲལ་~བའི་~ ~མིག་~ལྟར་~ ~བསྐྱངས~།

    drĭn~   pa~mas~  ~dral~vai~ ~

    Nurtured by my kind parents

                            mig~dar~  ~gyaŋ~.

                            like the eyes in their forehead.

གཟུགས་~  ལང་~ཚོ་~ ~དར་~བའི་~ ~གངས་~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

súg~   laŋ~co~  ~dǎr~vai~ ~,

I, a man of the Land of Snow,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            in the vigor of his youthfulness,

    སེང་~  དཀར་~མོའི་~ ~གཡུ་~རལ་~ ~ངོམ་~མཁན་~ ~ཡིན~།

    seŋ~   gar~moi~  ~yú~ral~ ~

    Display the turquoise mane

                            ŋom~kàn~  ~yin~.

                            of the white lion.

    གཟུགས་~  ལང་~ཚོ་~དར་~ ~བའི་~གངས་~ ~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

    súg~   laŋ~co~  ~dǎr~vai~ ~

    I, a man of the Land of Snow,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            in the vigor of his youthfulness,

        སེང་~  དཀར་~ ~མོའི་~གཡུ་~ ~རལ་~ངོམ་~ ~མཁན་~ཡིན~།

        seŋ~   gar~moi~  ~yú~ral~ ~

        Display the turquoise mane

                            of the white lion.

མགོན་~  བཤེས་~ ~གཉེན་~ ~དམ་~པས་~ ~རྗེས་~སུ་~ ~བཟུང་~།

gòn~   xès~  ~ñés~ ~

I was taken into the care

                            dǎm~bas~  ~jés~su~  ~súŋ~,

                            of a supreme spiritual teacher,

    བཀའ་~  མདོ་~རྒྱུད་~ ~གནའ་~དེང་~ ~མང་~དུ་~ ~སྦྱངས~།

    ga~  dò~gyúd~ ~ná~děŋ~ ~

    And I studied many ancient and modern scriptures

                            maŋ~du~ ~jyáŋ~.

                            of sutra and tantra.

ལྷོ་~  འཛམ་~གླིང་~ ~བསྐོར་~བའི་~ ~གངས་~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

lho~   zàm~líŋ~  ~gor~vai~ ~,

I, a man of the Land of Snow,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            who goes around the world in the south,

    དཔལ་~  བློན་~ཆེན་~ ~ཐོན་~མིའི་~ ~གདུང་~འཚོབ་~ ~ཡིན~།

    bal~   lón~qen~  ~ton~mii~ ~

    Am the successor

                            dúŋ~còb~  ~yin~.

                            of great glorious minister Thonmi.

    ལྷོ་~  འཛམ་~གླིང་~ ~བསྐོར་~བའི་~ ~གངས་~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

    lho~   zàm~líŋ~  ~gor~vai~ ~,

    I, a man of the Land of Snow,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            who goes around the world in the south,

        དཔལ་~  བློན་~ཆེན་~ ~ཐོན་~མིའི་~ ~གདུང་~འཚོབ་~ ~ཡིན~།

        bal~   lón~qen~  ~ton~mii~ ~

        Am the successor

                            dúŋ~còb~  ~yin~.

                            of great glorious minister Thonmi.

སྔོན་~  ཐུ་~བྷོད་~ ~བཙན་~པོའི་~ ~སྙིང་~སྟོབས་~ ~བཀླགས~།

ŋòn~   tu~bhod~  ~zan~boi~ ~

I have read of the courage

                            ñìŋ~dob~  ~lág~,

                            of the ancient Tibetan kings,

    དུས་~  ད་~ལྟའི་~ ~མངར་~སྐྱུར་~ ~འཚོ་~བ་~ ~མྱོངས་~།

    dǔs~   dǎ~lai~  ~ŋár~gyur~ ~

    But now I am experiencing

                            cò~va~  ~ñóŋ~.

                             a sweet and sour life.

སེམས་~  མི་~ཁོམས་~ ~ལ་~རྒྱའི་~ ~གངས་~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

sem~   mi~kom~  ~la~gyái~ ~,

I, a man of the Land of Snow with a restless mind,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            who keeps his commitment,

    གཞོམ་~  མི་~ཐུབ་~ ~ལོ་~རྒྱུས་~ ~རྡོ་~རིང་~ ~ཡིན~།

    xóm~   mi~tub~  ~lo~gyús~ ~

    Am the stone pillar

                            dó~riŋ~  ~yin~.

                            of a history impossible to destroy.

    སེམས་~  མི་~ཁོམས་~ ~ལ་~རྒྱའི་~ ~གངས་~ཕྲུག་~ ~ང་~།

sem~   mi~kom~  ~la~gyái~ ~,

    I, a man of the Land of Snow with a restless mind,

                            gǎŋ~trug~  ~ŋa~,

                            who keeps his commitment,

Reflecting on the causes and effects of karma,

                            wús~lam~ ~ gyúd~,

                            I traveled to central Tibet,

    བྱམས་~  སྙིང་~རྗེ་~ ~བསྒོམས་~ནས་~ ~བདེན་~ཚིག་~ ~བསྲུངས~།

    jyǎm~ ñìŋ~jé~  ~góm~nas~ ~

    And cultivating love and compassion

                        dén~cig~  ~sùŋ~.

                        I always spoke the truth.

རྗེ་~  སྤྱན་~རས་~ ~གཟིགས་~ཀྱི་~ ~གདུལ་~སྐལ་~ ~ང་~།

jé ~  jyan~ras~  ~síg~gyi~ ~

I, a fortunate student

                            dúl~gal~  ~ŋa~,

                            of the lord Avalokiteshvara,

    ཕམ་~  མི་~སྲིད་~ ~གསེར་~གྱི་~ ~རྒྱལ་~མཚན་~ ~ཡིན~ །

    pam~ mi~sìd~  ~sèr~gyĭ~ ~

    Am the golden victory banner

                            gyál~càn~ ~yin~.

                            impossible to defeat.

    རྗེ་~  སྤྱན་~རས་~ ~གཟིགས་~ཀྱི་~ ~གདུལ་~སྐལ་~ ~ང་~།

    jé ~ jyan~ras~  ~síg~gyi~ ~

    I, a fortunate student

                            dúl~gal~  ~ŋa~,

                            of the lord Avalokiteshvara,
