A Great Sacred Place

གནས་~ ཆེན་~པོ་ གཅིག་~ དང་~ ཆེན་ ~ པོ།
nás~ qen~bo jig~ dǎŋ~ qen ~ bo
nás qen-bo jig: a place, usually meant as a holy place
dǎŋ qen-bo: another place
So, usually they write ‘qen-bo jig dǎŋ qen-bo ñís’, but when she sings, she does not say ‘ñís’. That is: a sacred place, two sacred places, and a third sacred place.

གནས་~ ཆེན་~པོ གངས་~ དཀར་ལ་~ ཏི་ ~ སེ།
nás~ qen~bo gǎŋ~gar-la di ~se
The holy white place, mount Kailash.
The idea is that there are three principle holy mountains, not only Kailash, for this she says ‘nás qen-bo jig, ñís, sùm’.

གནས་~ དེ་~གསུམ་ སྐོ་~ ར་~ བསྐོར་ ~ བས།
nás~ dě~sùm gor~ ra~ gor ~ vas
Traveling around those three holy mountains.
You see, here she says ‘sùm’, therefore you have to have ‘jig’ and ‘ñís’.

ཕོ་~ རང་~སེམས་ སྣང་~ བ་ལ་~ དགའ་ ~ བྱུང་།
po~ raŋ~sem nàŋ~va-la gá ~ jyǔŋ
po: usually it means ‘males’ but here it means people 
raŋ-sem: their minds
nàŋ-va-la: vision, sensation
gá-jyǔŋ: happy

གཞོན་~པ་ ང་~ཚོ་ སེམས་~ པ་ལ་~ སྐིད་ ~ བྱུང་།
xón~ba ŋa~co sem~ba-la gyid ~ jyǔŋ
xón-ba ŋa-co: we young people sem-ba-la: in the mind gyid-jyǔŋ: happy*

cò: lake 
qen-bo: place

མཚོ་~ ཆེན་~པོ་ མ་~ ཕམ་ལ་~ ་ གཡུ་ ~ མཚོ ~ །
cò~ qen~bo ma~pam-la yú ~ cò ~
ma-pam-la: Manasarovar, that lake
yú-cò: the ‘Turquoise Lake’, another name for the lake, they call it this name.

Circling around these three lakes. Then everything is the same.

qos: the Dharma
qen-bo: a place, usually it mainly means a holy place
 
jig-dǎŋ qen-bo: another place
དབུས་~ ལྷ་~སའི་ ཇོ་~ བོ་ལ་~ རྣམ་ ~ གསུམ།
wús~ lha~sai jǒ~vo-la nám ~ sùm
wús: center, meaning central Tibet lha-sai: Lhasa
jǒ-vo-la: Jowo, the statue of the Buddha nám-sùm: three types of form
In central Tibet, in Lhasa, there are three statues of the Buddha in different forms; one statue is from China, one from Tibet and one from Nepal (Zha Lhakhang Ramoche, etc.), three types of lake, principally the Co Mapam, and three types of mountain, principally the Tise. The Jowo is Dharma: when you go around the Jowo, is Dharma, or you can also say ‘spirituality’.

*On another occasion, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu explained that the song can be translated in another way: “An important holy site, a very important one is the white Kailash. Circumambulating it three times, the people are happy”.

A great sacred place, very great,

    གནས་~  ཆེན་~པོ གངས་~ དཀར་ལ་~ ཏི་ ~ སེ ~ །

    nás~ qen~bo  găŋ~ gar-la  di~  se~ ,

    A great sacred place is snow-white Kailash,

        གནས་~  ཆེན་~པོ གངས་~ དཀར་ལ་~ ཏི་ ~ སེ ~ །

        nás~ qen~bo  găŋ~ gar-la  di~  se~ .

        A great sacred place is snow-white Kailash.

གནས་~  དེ་~གསུམ་ སྐོར་ ར་~  བསྐོར་ ~ བས ~ །

nás~  dě~sùm  gor~ ra~  gor~  vas~ ,

Circumambulating that place three times,

    ཕོ་~  རང་~སེམས་ སྣང་~ བ་ལ་~ དགའ་ ~  བྱུང་ ~  །

    po~ raŋ~sem  nàŋ~va-la   gá~  jyŭŋ~ 

    The people feel joy

        གཞོན་~པ་ ང་~ཚོ་ སེམས་~ པ་ལ་~ སྐྱིད་ ~  བྱུང་།

        xón~ba  ŋa~co  sem~ba-la gyid~  jyŭŋ.

        And we youths become cheerful.

མཚོ་~  ཆེན་~པོ་ གཅིག་~ དང་~  ཆེན་ ~ པོ ~ །

        A great lake is Manasarovar, the Turquoise Lake.
