Crossing many valleys and mountains, I arrived in a country that is not mine.

sa ~gyús med ~bai xán~ yul~ raŋ ~sem qag ~ba mi~ dùg
When I live in a country that I do not know whose it is, my mind does not become stable in this place.

བྱམས་ ~སེམས་ ཅན་ ~གི་ སྐེས་~ མ~ ། རྨི་ ~ལམ་ ནང་ ~དུ་ མཇལ་~ དུས།
jyǎm ~sem jan ~gyi gyes~ ma~ mí ~lam naŋ ~dǔ jàl~ dǔs
When I meet my dear mother in my dreams, I try to communicate to her the words from my heart,

ང་~ཡི་ སིང་~གཏམ་ ཁྱེད་ ~ལ་ ཞུས་~ ཀང་། ཁྱེད་ ~ཀིས་ ཐོས་~ཀང་ ཐོས་~ཀི་ མི་~ འདུག
ŋa~yi ñìŋ~dam kyed ~la xǔs~ gyaŋ~ kyed ~gyis tos~gyaŋ tos~gyi mi~ dùg
but she does not hear and cannot communicate.

གཞན་ ~ཡུལ་ ཕོགས་ ~ཀི་ མི་~ རྣམས། ཕ་ ~མ་ སྤུན་~མཆེད་ ཡིན་~ན་ སེམས་~ བྱུང་།
xán ~yul qyog ~gyi mi~nám ~pa ~ma bun-qèd yin-na sem~jyǔŋ
I try to think that all of the people from the place where I am living are like parents and relatives,

ང་~ཡི་ སིང་~གཏམ་ ཁྱེད་ ~ལ་ ཞུས་~ ཀང་~ ། ཁྱེད་ ~ཀིས་ ཐོས་~ཀང་ ཐོས་~ཀི་ མི་ འདུག
ŋa-yi ñìŋ-dam kyed ~la xǔs~gyaŋ ~kyed ~gyis tos-gyaŋ tos-gyi mi~dùg
and I try to communicate to them the words from my heart, but they do not understand what I am saying.

la  ~luŋ    maŋ  ~bo   gyáb~  nas~ ,

Having crossed many passes and valleys,

    གཞན་ ~ཡུལ་ ཕྱོགས་ ~ལ་ བསླེབས་~ སོང་~ །

    xán  ~yul   qyog  ~la    lèb~  soŋ~ .

    I arrived in a foreign land.

        ས་ ~རྒྱུས་ མེད་ ~པའི་ གཞན་~ ཡུལ~ །

        sa  ~gyús   med  ~bai   xán~  yul~,

        In a foreign land, a place not familiar to me,

            རང་ ~སེམས་ ཆགས་ ~པ་ མི་~ འདུག~

            raŋ  ~sem    qag  ~ba   mi~  dùg~.

            My mind does not settle down.

བྱམས་  ~སེམས་ ཅན་ ~གྱི་ སྐྱེས་~ མ~ །

jyăm  ~sem    jan  ~gyi    gyes~  ma~ 

When in my dreams

    རྨི་ ~ལམ་ ནང་ ~དུ་ མཇལ་~ དུས~ །

    mí  ~lam    naŋ  ~dŭ jàl~  dŭs~ ,

    I meet you, my loving mother,

        ང་~ཡི་ སྙིང་~གཏམ་ ཁྱེད་ ~ལ་ ཞུས་~ ཀྱང་~ །

        ŋa~yi    ñìŋ~dam   kyed  ~la   xŭs~  gyaŋ~ ,

        I try to tell you the feelings of my heart,

            ཁྱེད་ ~ཀྱིས་ ཐོས་~ཀྱང་ ཐོས་~ཀྱི་ མི་~ འདུག ~

            kyed  ~gyis   tos~gyaŋ   tos~gyi   mi~  dùg ~.

            But you do not hear what I say.
